Editorial Fellowship scheme

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the European Journal of Medical Research (EJMR) we are launching a new “Editorial Fellowship” scheme.  EJMR is a fully open access journal that covers the entire spectrum of medical research and currently receives around 10,000 submissions from around the world annually.

This new scheme is designed for early-stage academics with an interest in developing their expertise and activity in the scholarly publishing process, and who may be interested in graduating to an Associate Editor position with the journal in due course.  The scheme will offer: mentoring by a subject relevant Deputy or Senior Editor, training, and active participation in journal operations, including article review and membership of the journal forum.  Successful applicants will gain direct experience of reviewer recruitment and analysis of peer review responses in order to formulate a recommendation, as well as consideration of manuscript revisions.  They will experience a number of ethical issues as they arrive and gain an understanding of COPE advice on difficult ethical problems.

We aim to recruit two Editorial Fellows in each of the main sections of the journal this year and each Fellowship will last two years.  It is expected that successful applicants will be employed in a position that extends for at least the duration of the Fellowship (2 years), most probably at a post-doctoral level or equivalent, and will be working in a relevant medical research environment.

It is likely that these duties would take around 2 hours per week and you should be clear that you could afford this time commitment. If you are interested in this opportunity, please provide a short resume (max 2 pages) of your academic and clinical and/or scientific career including any awards, Fellowships and manuscript reviewing experience you have gained, as well as a full bibliography.

Applications should be sent to Senior Publisher Qiao Hui at qiao.hui@springernature.com.

Closing date for applications

Article of the Month: Tranexamic acid in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage: a meta-analysis

The potential benefit of tranexamic acid in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage remains an important and actively investigated topic. This updated meta-analysis incorporated five randomized controlled trials, including the recent STOP-MSU trial. The analysis demonstrated that tranexamic acid does not significantly reduce hematoma expansion or improve clinical outcomes in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. Although tranexamic acid is inexpensive and widely accessible, current evidence does not support its routine use in the management of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. Further research is warranted to identify subgroups of patients who may benefit from targeted antifibrinolytic therapy.
